there are very nice kits now that do not mod the guitar at all, I recently installed one on a larrivee, it was made by LR baggs and we scored ours on ebay for 140.00 and the sound is pristine, as for an amp, anything with a clean channel will boos...
Hello! Nice to see you with an Art & Lutherie. Those guitars are actually really great for the price! They have a unique earthy sound too, which I particularly like.
Are you making any progress on your chord progressions? Just thought I'd let you know about something my husband got me. You probably are farther along than me and this might be too basic for you, but... It's a book from the "Easy Guitar with notes & tabs" series and the title is "The DOORS for Guitar". It's a pretty good book for people starting out since it's at the easy level and is the song melodies tabbed out along with the music sheet and words. If you want to play something more interesting than the usual beginner easy level stuff like "Skip to my Lou" and that type stuff...
There's a great DVD of her ( Emily ) playing solo-jazz guitar. Also check out Mimi Fox. She's a strong guitarist too. You mentioned Bonnie Raitt.
Bonnie lives not too far from me and i have seen her at local shows in the Bay Area. I just played with a drummer who has done shows with her and we were talking about her band. She's one of my faves. Hang in there T.
If you can find it, get Ted Greene's Chord Chemistry, great book!
peace
T, ya know there are quite a few excellent women guitarists. In my neighborhood in jersey the best jazz guitarist , hands down , was Emily Remler. Emily died in the 90s and i was pretty bummed but she made some choices , well , she was a sweetie. My girlfriend at the time was hanging out with her. Check her music out. Talk about chord work. Damn she was good!
